About Beczak

Catch of the Day Seining
Beczak Environmental Education Center is the hub of river education in the Lower Hudson Valley. 2010 marked its 20th anniversary.

Its center, an indoor/outdoor interpretive site located on the banks of the Hudson in the City of Yonkers, presents river exploration programs for all ages to raise environmental awareness and to encourage informed stewardship of the natural world.

One of Beczak's after school environmental clubs.
As of spring 2012, Beczak educators will also offer river-education programs for schools and families at the Kathryn W. Davis Riverwalk Center in Tarrytown.

Beczak educators work with approximately 20,000 children and families each year. They teach about the Hudson River Estuary—the spectacular river in our backyard with life of all kinds in its waters—and prepare the environmental advocates of the future.

“Beczak not only assists us in helping students meet standards in science and social studies, as well as English language arts and mathematics, but it cultivates behaviors and understandings that will reap benefits far into the future—a sense of stewardship for the environment and shared responsibility for all life on earth.”
—Bernard P. Pierorazio, Superintendent of Schools, Yonkers Public Schools

"Beczak has a clear understanding of how inquiry-centered learing increases chidlren's language, math and science skills as well as their problem solving and creative thinking abilities." —Fern Eisgrub, Executive Director, Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, Yonkers Public Schools
